History of the Firm
The practice of Desai & Associates Pty Ltd commenced in June 1990 in Monbulk. The practice has grown in size over the years. In May 1998 the practice moved to bigger and better premises in Ferntree Gully from where we are presently operating.
With over 30 years experience in public practice by Devendra, the practice has the necessary skills and experience to provide the quality service one would expect when seeking accounting and taxation advice.
On 1st July 2006, Naren Popat joined the practice as a partner and the practice is now operating as Desai Popat & Associates Pty Ltd.

 Devendra Desai (Director)
Devendra completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of South Africa in 1970. He then completed a course in the Certificate in the Theory of Accountancy at the University of Durban Westville in South Africa in 1973. This post graduate course was a pre-requisite to writing the exams to qualify as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1975 and is a registered member of the Public Accountants and Auditors’ Board and The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Devendra started his accountancy practice with a partner in Durban, South Africa, in 1975. This practice grew very quickly and in 1987, when he migrated to Australia, the practice in South Africa comprised of four partners and about 40 employees.
In Australia, Devendra worked for various accountancy practices to gain Australian experience and at the same time completed his conversion exams in Australian Taxation and Australian Company Law to gain membership to the National Institute of Accountants in 1991. He has been in practice since 1991 as a practitioner in Desai Popat & Associates Pty Ltd and in 2006 Naren Popat joined as a partner and the practice is now operating as Desai Popat & Associates Pty Ltd.

Naren Popat (Director)
Naren completed his Bachelor of Accounting at the University of South Africa. After completing the Diploma in Accounting and the Final Qualifying exam in 1988, Naren qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He worked for many years as a manager for a second tier firm before becoming a partner in a 6 partner, 50 staff firm in South Africa, specializing in servicing small to medium sized businesses.
In Australia, Naren worked for a few accounting firms before joining the firm as a partner from 1 July 2006. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and has also completed a Masters in Taxation.
